Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 4, 2026. This Privacy Policy describes how Kanatago handles personal information in connection with the Sidewalk Saga mobile application and related support operations.
1. Who we are

2. Information we collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
- Account and identity data, such as your email address, account ID, login details, and authentication records.
- Profile data, such as username, display name, avatar or profile photo, preferences, and other profile settings you choose to provide.
- Location data, including current or recent device location used to generate quests, show nearby places, and determine whether you have reached a quest destination.
- Activity and step data, including motion activity and, where you grant access on iOS, Apple Health step-count information used to reflect walking progress in the app.
- Camera and photo data, including photos you choose to capture or upload for profile images or quest-related photo challenges.
- Audio and voice interaction data, including generated voice playback requests, temporary tokens used to enable voice features, and related technical logs. Sidewalk Saga is not designed to continuously record your microphone for general monitoring.
- Quest and gameplay data, such as generated quests, story settings, choices, achievements, progress history, and in-app interactions.
- Device and diagnostics data, such as device type, operating system, app version, push token, notification preferences, error logs, timestamps, and approximate service usage metadata.
- Commerce data, such as subscription tier, entitlement status, purchase receipts or transaction metadata, and records of one-time digital item purchases processed through Apple or Google billing systems and supporting providers.
- Support communications and review correspondence, including messages sent to our support email address.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you, automatically from your device and app usage, from mobile platform providers such as Apple and Google, and from service providers that help us run the app.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage accounts;
- authenticate users and maintain account security;
- generate and deliver location-based quests, routes, and story content;
- measure walking progress, validate quest completion, and support gameplay mechanics;
- display maps, landmarks, and place-based context relevant to your quests;
- process optional photo-based challenges and profile media that you choose to submit;
- deliver push notifications you choose to enable;
- manage subscriptions, restore purchases, deliver digital items, and prevent fraud or abuse;
- maintain, troubleshoot, analyze, improve, and secure the app;
- respond to support requests and legal inquiries; and
- comply with law and enforce our terms.
5. Legal bases
Where applicable, we process personal information because it is necessary to perform our contract with you, because you have given consent, because it is required for compliance with law, or because we have legitimate interests in operating, improving, and protecting Sidewalk Saga.
6. Permissions and sensitive device access
Sidewalk Saga may request the following permissions depending on your device and which features you use:
- Location: to generate nearby quests, show relevant places, and check arrival at quest destinations.
- Motion or activity recognition: to count steps or otherwise support walking-based progress.
- Apple Health step access on iOS: to read step count if you grant that permission.
- Camera and photo library: to let you capture or choose profile images and complete optional photo challenges.
- Notifications: to send quest-related updates and service messages if you opt in.
You can usually control app permissions in your device settings, though some features may not work correctly without them.
7. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers and partners that help us operate Sidewalk Saga, including providers for hosting, authentication, maps and place data, notifications, analytics or diagnostics, subscription and purchase processing, and AI or content-generation features. These may include services such as Supabase, Mapbox, Expo, RevenueCat, Google, Apple, and Google Play, depending on the feature used.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights or safety, in connection with a business transfer, or with your direction.
8. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own by us or our service providers. Where required, we take reasonable steps intended to protect transferred information.
9. Data retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app, maintain records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, meet legal obligations, and protect the service. The retention period depends on the type of information and the reason it was collected.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access, correct, or delete certain personal information;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- object to or restrict certain processing; and
- request a copy of certain information you provided.
To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
11. Account deletion
You may request deletion of your Sidewalk Saga account by emailing [email protected] from the email address associated with your account and using the subject line "Delete Sidewalk Saga Account." We may retain limited information where necessary for security, fraud prevention, financial recordkeeping, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
If you purchased a subscription through Apple App Store or Google Play, deleting your Sidewalk Saga account does not automatically cancel that subscription. You must manage cancellation through the store account used for purchase.
12. Children
Sidewalk Saga is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
13. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Third-party services and platforms
Sidewalk Saga may interact with third-party platforms and services that have their own privacy practices, including Apple, Google, App Store, Google Play, and service providers integrated into the app experience. Your use of those services may also be governed by their terms and policies.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at this page and revise the effective date above. Continued use of Sidewalk Saga after an update means the updated policy applies, to the extent permitted by law.
